My Public Option

My brain has run dry.

April 1st is traditionally one of my favorite days of the year. This year I’m just indifferent. In years past, I’ve come up with some fairly creative, very believable April Fool’s Day hoaxes. This year, I’ve got nothing.

I guess I should try harder. Unfortunately, my brain hurts.

I’ve decided to undo the privacy aspect of the blog. I couldn’t mention any of this before, but now that it’s over I can tell you why I did what I did.

My “privacy” concerns were legitimate and urgent. In essence I had a “blog stalker.” A reader began contacting me via email several weeks ago. That contact progressed aggressively. The emails quickly grew more frequent and their tone grew darker and darker.

My ‘Anniversary week’ series proved to be the breaking point. By the end of that week my ‘stalker’ became blatantly threatening. Then there came signs of attempted personal contact. I felt my and my family’s safety were at risk.

I decided to stop writing. I contacted authorities. They encouraged me to continue writing and developed a sting to ensnare my harasser. The sting involved my privatizing the blog as step one. That is as far as my understanding, and involvement, took me. I was told to write as normal.

The authorities now know their target. They have all of the evidence they need. I can de-privatize. The veil of terror has lifted.

I’m not going back to business as usual, though. This ordeal has taught me to be a little more evasive and a little less specific. I need to become a little more anonymous.

Enjoy your April Fool’s Day. I’m going to enjoy mine.

*edit* ps - As I typed the title "My Public Option" a great porn movie title came to me. The Pubic Option. Topical and tawdry. Just like a porn movie title should be.

*Edit #2* - I've turned off comments. If you feel the need, you can email me.

Edit #3 - Comments are back on.
