2. What is your understanding of evil as
it exists in the world?
I must begin by stating that I do believe evil exists in the
world. Many would like to explain away evil as less than what it is (as an
isolated “bad apple” for example). I do not doubt that evil exists. As stated
in “The Articles of Religion of the Methodist Church” from the Book of Discipline, Original sin “is the
corruption of every man, that naturally is engendered of the offspring of Adam,
whereby man is very far gone from original righteousness, and of his own nature
inclined to evil, and that continually” (Article VII).
The “Problem of Evil” faces every pastor at some point in his or
her ministry....
