I thought our computer died yesterday. We had a little power surge at the house. Didn't think anything of it. Later I went up stairs and the computer was on but the screen was blank. Move the mouse, nothing. Hit a button on the keyboard, nothing. Ctrl+Alt+Delete, nothing. So I restarted. Then I restarted again. Then I restarted in Safe Mode. All for naught. I went to a meeting. (Meetings cure everything!) When I got home I tried again, this time I restarted in "Debugging Mode." It actually worked. So far it seems to work fine. Crisis averted!
We've been unusually active socially the last few weeks. We went to eat at some friends' house three weeks ago, had a cook-out with the band two weeks ago, went to another cook-out with hundreds of people for the 4th, went to a birthday/house-warming Saturday night, and then we had people over for lunch yesterday. We're not usually this social. I think I've enjoyed it. We should get out more.
I'm still absorbed in my Harry Potter obsession. Maybe the next 2-3 weeks will cure that. My mom, sister, son, and I are going to see OOTP Thursday afternoon. I'm excited. Not my favorite of the books, but it should make a great movie. Then, of course, the last book comes out a week from Saturday. I'm excited. I guess my eldest and I will read it at the same time. I’ll try to do an ultra-geeky fanboy post next week with lots of theories, questions, and what I hope to read.
We're going to Paducah this weekend. This is the first time we've been back since we moved almost 3 years ago. Obviously, I’m most looking forward to Friday night. I’m going to see Glen Phillips and Nickel Creek! I haven’t been all that excited about this since I first found out they were playing the weekend we were going. But now that it’s getting closer I’m getting more anxious. I should listen to lots of Glen and MAS this week.
Vacation was good. Very good. We did everything we set out to do. The kids both learned to swim. Our youngest learned first. I think that motivated our eldest to learn. They were both swimming around like little fish by the time we left. They’ve been to the YMCA to swim several days since and have only improved. It was a very restful week. We did all of the things the kids were looking forward to doing. We ate at all of the right places. Swam at all of the right times. We gave each of them their own camera for the week so they could take their own pictures. Then we had to explain to our six year-old that she probably shouldn’t take pictures of random people we don’t know in the swimming pool. Maybe I’ll post some of their finer work later this week.
The little one ended up with swimmer’s ear after it was all over. Not fun, especially the part where she couldn’t swim for a week or so.
The Edge seems to be going really well. I’m not sure I’ve ever posted that name here. It is our alternative worship service in which I play guitar and sing. Our numbers are actually up for the summer. More importantly than that, though, is the spirit of the service. More than one person has told me they really feel the Spirit of God in that service. I feel so, so blessed to be a part of it. I still can’t believe I’m up there singing every week, but it sure is fun.
I took the kids to see Shrek 3 last Friday. We’re a little late, I know. It wasn’t bad. I laughed out loud several times, usually at times when no one else laughed. Shrek, Spiderman, Waitress, and Harry Potter will make 4 movies in a little over two months. It’s been a while since I went to the movies that often.
That’s all I can think of at the moment. I’m sure I’ll have more later.
OK, I say at the moment, but actually
Have a great week!
