Ivan and such

Weather is cool. I know it's weird and kind of morbid, but I love watching and experiencing severe weather. I've been watching the coverage of Hurricane Ivan and just can't get enough of it. It takes me back to 1995 when we rode out Allison in PCB and Opal in Auburn. Exciting times. Especially Opal.

We lived in a trailer at the time and rode out the storm at our Pastor's house in Opelika. The next day driving back home was very eerie. Trees were down on the interstate. Roofs were damaged. Debris was everywhere. People were out looking at the damage. The closer we got to our trailer park the scarier it got. There were demolished mobile homes spread through surrounding trailer parks and ours. One of our neighbors had their home split in half by a tree.

We finally arrived home expecting the worst. But everything was fine. We had a small dogwood in the front yard that was leaning (and did from that day forward) but otherwise everything was fine. Sweet relief.

We spent several days without power. Which even in October was not very pleasant. A couple of days later some friends and I went to Atlanta to see the Braves play the Rockies in the play-offs. When we got home the power was finally back on. I hope AU fairs better this time than it did then.
