Class(ic) Wednesday

I'm back in class today. I didn't get to write a prelude today. We're actually into our first break already. I'm in Christian Beliefs right now. It's been an interesting class already.

We began with a discussion of Liberation Theology and how it relates to the African-American culture. That took us down the long tangled rabbit hole that is racism in America. We went into implied racism, white privilege, etc.

That angered some. Their anger angered others. It was actually a really calm, reserved conversation. Even though it was way too drawn out.

So the question became, "Does racism still exist in America?"

The short answer is yes. I need to write more on this someday. The concept of White Privilege & intrinsic racism is a fascinating topic.

I'll sum up my take in a couple of sentences: White privilege is real. Take an objective look around, tell me what you see. Here's what I see American culture telling anyone who will ask: It's our (whites) world, and we allow them (non-whites) to live in it. Disagree? Tell me about it.

*update - 5:25 pm - It's time for my next class. Church History. I decided to wait until this class is over to eat dinner. I hope that's not a mistake. I think I'll make it through.

*update - 6:05 pm - Making it through so far, but it's getting iffy. We're still on the introductory lecture (this is week 3). We're talking "What is the church?" "Why study Church History?" etc. etc.
