Lost to the Future II

Too many distractions today.

It’s National Signing Day in college football, so I’m following recruiting via a couple of different sites.

I’m still scratching my head over last night’s LOST season premiere. That was some crazy, crazy stuff. Here’s one serious theory and another that would make a great parody (I’ll start with the serious).

1) I’ll use an analogy Locke is to MIB (Smoke Monster guy) as Sayid is to Jacob. I think Jacob has indwelt Sayid. The problem with this theory is this: Locke’s body is still around even though MIB is using his visage. In essence, there are two Locke’s. There is only one Sayid.

2) We’re obviously dealing with alternate timelines as a result of the H-bomb. I think it would be great if the “still on the plane” time line takes a Back to the Future 2 sort of twist. Maybe our heroes will find a huge casino in LA with a huge statue Ben Linus’ head on top. And, of course, Jack’s mom would have fake boobs.

Other than that I think things are wide-ass open. I am really excited about this season of LOST. I know the questions will likely get thicker before they start to thin, but that’s part of what I enjoy about the show. Last night was full of “WTF!” (the ‘F’ stands for ‘frack’ of course) moments. I expect the rest of the season will follow suit.

I have to say, it was great to see some of the “dead come back to life” last night. Boone, eh, could do with or without him. Charlie had one of the quotes of the night, I thought. After Jack pulled the heroin balloon from Charlie’s airway he says, “I was supposed to die.” (Or something to that effect.) Lot’s of layers of meaning there. I think things in that timeline are going to go to hell in a hand-basket very quickly (a la BTTF 2).

Quick tangential moment, if you will allow. Am I the only one who thinks of Sesame Street every time you hear the phrase “a la”? Remember the magician guy? The Amazing Mumford. His magic words? “A la peanut butter sandwiches!” *poof* Bungled magic trick. I love it. Watch this.

Tonight is week 3 of our book study on Rob Bell’s Sex God. It’s going pretty well so far. Last week was interesting. Lot’s of dissention in the ranks. There were more than a few having trouble making the leap lexicography Bell was asking us to make. The leap in question is this: “Our Sexuality is all of the ways we try to reconnect with each other and with God.” The basic premise here being that we, as humans, are disconnected from each other, from creation, from ourselves, and from God. Our sexuality is our awareness of that disconnect and the ways we go about trying to reconnect.

Interesting idea. I’m curious to see where Bell takes it from there.

Enjoy your Wednesday.

War Eagle!
